That's according to projections by the Tax Policy Center, a Washington research organization. It is a system in which the top 10 percent of earners -- households making an average of $366,400 in 2006 -- paid about 73 percent of the income taxes collected by the federal government. The bottom 40 percent, on average, make a profit from the federal income tax, meaning they get more money in tax credits than they would otherwise owe in taxes. For those people, the government sends them a payment. Now WHO doesn't pay their fair share of taxes?

Why? The top ten percent already pay 75% of the total taxes in the US already. The more you take from the "Rich" the less money is invested throughout the economy. I don't know about you, but I've never been employed by a poor person. I can go on for days explaining to you why this is a bad thing, Citing formulas such as the Laffert Curve to prove my point that the higher the taxes on the earners are, the less revenue is received by the Govt. The Govt could confiscate EVERY dollar of $500,000 that any person makes in a year, AND STILL NOT RAISE ENOUGH REVENUE TO COVER THE DEFICIT. Raising taxes isnt the answer cutting them is. |

Instead of pushing through a "STIMULUS" package equivalent to 3% of GDP, believing that somehow spending money on a credit card will lead to prosperity, we:
CUT GOVT BY 50%
Woodrow Wilson (liberal) jacksk up the top rates to an astounding 73% (near confiscation) and hike the bottom rate to 25% by 1919.
Mellon, Harding, and Coolidge succeeded in reducing the top rate from 73% to 25%, and the bottom rate from 25% to 5%
Doing this DOUBLED THE TAX REVENUES to the Govt.
How, you ask?
The way our tax system works is based on the velocity of money. (how many times a dollar changes hands)
When tax rates are high, money changes hands less because of Overly high taxes. The more the Govt takes per transaction, the less there is for the next transaction, and the next, and the next.
When tax rates are low, the money changes hands much quicker because the money is left in the economy.
The longer the money is left in the economy, and not given to the govt. The more times it changes hands. Bob spends money with Joe (taxed), Joe spends with John (taxed again) John spends with mary (taxed yet again)
The point is, The govt taking a huge chunk out of someones paycheck is extremely short sighted, and sacrifices multiplied tax revenues due to money changing hands for a short fix. This ensures dampened tax revenues, and that budget problems we currently have.
