Finally a dyno run.
«
on:
September 11, 2009, 07:53:52 PM »
I finally did a dyno run today it was 87degrees with 47% humidity and my slowmatic 06 gt busted 292.19hp and 299.83tq to my dry rotted tires.. im disapointed but at the same time enthused realizing theres much more performance to be had with exhuast cam and nitrous.

nice.... but *uck the exhaust upgrade..... looks like you're already packing with two missing mufflers..... get you some sticky tires to help cure that ET

yeah the exhuast sounds sick dirty one guy at gear heads looked under the car thinking i had full exhuast done but the owner of the shop seemed to think that it was actually hurting performance having them missing.. which i know isnt true because the car is quicker with the 60lbs in mufflers gone.
as far as lowering my ET i can only stall up to 2000rpm then i start to spin the tires in the hole. any sugestions how to fix this without buying m/t tires? stall maybe? because i went from all weather winter firestone tires to a nt450 and still can only power brake to the same exact 2000rpm and the tires begin to spin..

well if Travis says its hurting you trust me it is. He and his shop is not some fly by night shop that talks shit he will tell you how it is and what will help you, and he has the trophies to prove it. He will steer you away from a part that does not preform even if it will stop him from getting a sale. His is the most honest performance shop I have ever been in and I have been in quite a few. He has earned a customer for life no matter what I am driving.

i mean yeah i beleave its hurting it as far as the horsepower but it cant be much, on the other hand he also didnt seem too sure.. i dont think too many people just take off the axleback. i noticed an increase in acceleration with the weight of the axleback removed esspecially from a 25mph rolling start. realisticly i feal with the car the way it is i want to do a long tube exhuast system to get the car over 300hp maybe a jba 3inch? i mean my next mods are dependent on how much i get back in taxs this next season because thats the only time i have the extra money to spend hundreds of dollars or even more on any one thing. as far as my launching issues with not being able to stall up higher than 2000rpm without spinning the tires in the hole? what do i do bigger rear brakes? heavier wheels? because weather ive done a burnout and heated up the rubber or not i cant power brake higher than 2000rpm.... this is my biggest issue.

if you start increasing pipe size with out the back pressure of a muffler you will lose power this is for sure these motors need back pressure also yes the stock exhaust is heavy but where the weight is did not help you that much. I mean hell I put my battery in my trunk. weight reduction helps, but 60 lbs in the rear is not as much as you think. try shedding your weight up front not out back this is for weight transfer off the line. with your power I would go with a set of long tube headers that have 1 5/8 primaries to a 2 1/2 inch cat-less X pipe with a good set of axle backs for back pressure. That's just me though. I am running a catted X pipe but not for long though. I know with a cai, x cal, pypes axle backs, and a bassani catted x pype I made 308 rwhp and 314 rwtrq in humid weather as well on the same dyno. For that matter I could lose 20 hp on the dyno and wouldn't care as long as I pick up ET at the track. That's just me though. Hell you could go to another dyno in the metroplex and I bet you would run over 300 hp.

oh no i went to gear heads before I had even met any of yall. They did my gear. I have said fuck dm and fuck hpp but never gearheads. I did say I didnt want to do my tune there and that was a expensive mistake on my part live and learn. I think I also said he treats Chris like shit but since he fired Chris everyone in the shop seems to be in a better mood especially Travis, he is not always pissed off now.

I figure running no cats and no mufflers is just a huge waste of time. I was saying jba full exhuast with cats and mufflers in 3 inch from front to back.
Im guessing this would have just enough back presure to make maximum horsepower out of exhuast upgrade. And im with you on your dryo's are just a tool saying, simple mater is if you dont put the power to the ground your power is wasted. And I feal my biggest launching issue right now is not being able to stall past 2000rpm at the starting line. What helps with this? A "stall converter"?

yea or a manual trans. I think you will find 3" too big with out a turbo or supercharger. 2.5" is optimum for a n/a setup.

ok so i would like to be able to launch at 4000rpm does that mean i need a 4000 stall? and how does a stall converter affect normal driving? will it free rev basicly between idle and 4000 rpm?

1+ on the gears it will feel like a totally diferent album and sticky tires to stop the wheel spin

we already know that 3.90-4.30 gears will wake these 3500+lb cars up. but with gears done with the automatic trans will i still be able to launch at 2000rpm ? or will it lower how high i can power brake?

Read this article section about the stall but if you are spinning at 2500 rpms you need to fix the spin issue first Stall will not fix spin suspinsion and tires fix spin

you can launch at what ever you are set up at but will spin due to the gearing with out good tires

so to go 4.10 gears and 4000stall on a 275 wide max performance summer tire with bmr upper and lowers should work rather well?

You put that big a stall in it and it will not be worth chit on the street in my opinion I would go with a 3200-3500 max. That is the downside to an auto you can't leave as hard as a standard and still be streetable also you r going to need some kind of drag radial to hook up well not a street tire.

yeah ask evelio, he put 4:10's in his auto s197 and spins them tires off the line (street tires) you'll definitely need a stickier tire once you put gears and a stall. IMO a 3k stall is the better option for street and strip use.
just get you a 4k stall, trans brake and slicks and launch WAY harder than any manual car out there!

I would do the 4.10 gears first best bang for the buck i have a 3000 stall on my mach takes of pretty good of the line. But i can only stall up too 2300rpm its hard to explain everybody thinks if you get for example a 4000 stall you think you can stall up that high wrong the only way to do that is with a transbrake
. I learned alot from Darrin Bcautomotive great guy he told me how a stall works he be building my 4r70w in the near future. But yea get 4.10 for now you will love them.

True, you will need a transbrake to be able to stall up anymore than 2400, the brakes won't hold the car.

so since this car is going to be a nitrous build and be at about 400-450 to the tire (all the engine can take from what i heard from travis) m/t tires are going to be a must and at that point no more driving in the rain for me
unless i buy a 2nd set of wheels and tires. sigh...

second set of tires that's what I do. yes that's on the safe side I have seen the over 500 on stock internals but that is living in borrowed time but with a built rotating assembly the sky is the limit. I did drive on my drag radials in the rain and had no problem but I prefer the street tires for the peace of mind.

I drive my car daily 65miles round trip and in the rain on half bald rear tires, don't know why people make such a big deal about driving in the rain, slow your ass down! I see people going 70-80mph on the highway when it is raining, and then wonder why they hydroplaned???

I drive my car daily 65miles round trip and in the rain on half bald rear tires, don't know why people make such a big deal about driving in the rain, slow your ass down! I see people going 70-80mph on the highway when it is raining, and then wonder why they hydroplaned???
i think Alex's rear tires look kind of like this... "TRUE SLICKS"

what i don't get is how the hell do you launch well with tires like that? cause you were running good that one time at cedar creek
